(10-06-23) DHUSAMAREB — The President of Galmudug State of Somalia, Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor, inaugurated the new Ministry of Education and Higher Education building in Dhusamareb on Saturday. He was joined by the Minister of Education, Mohamed Hashi Dore, Minister of Petroleum and Minerals for Galmudug State of Somalia, Amal Ahmed Arahey and various officials from both the Federal Member States and the Banadir Regional Administration, in a ceremony marking an optimistic new chapter for the region’s education landscape.
The new facility, a state-of-the-art building housing 20 fully equipped offices, promises to augment the ministry’s mission to deliver equitable and high-quality education to school-age children in Galmudug State. “I am thrilled to announce that we have opened our new Ministry of Education building. This facility will help us better serve our children,” announced a visibly elated Dore, emphasising the potential of the new headquarters to enhance the quality of educational services in Galmudug.
This important development comes as part of the Save the Children Somalia Education Sector Plan Implementation Grant (ESPIG)-Maximum Country Allocation (MCA) programme, funded by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE). The GPE has been a key stakeholder in constructing and furnishing the new establishment.
The ESPIG MCA programme is a dynamic initiative designed to expand equitable access to and improve the quality of Early Childhood Care and Education Services. It targets out-of-school children by offering them a chance at quality primary education. The programme is currently providing support to 147 schools across the Federal Member States and Banadir Regional Administration in Southern Somalia, including 36 schools in Galmudug State.
With the new Ministry of Education headquarters providing a conducive working
space for ministry staff, it is clear that the facility is more than just a building; it is a beacon of hope for the children of Galmudug, their families, and the community at large. This initiative underscores the commitment of Galmudug State and its partners towards achieving educational advancement and contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the region.
