(08-06-23) MOGADISHU — Gedo’s Governor, Ahmed Buule Garad, has denounced the recent administration appointed by the President of Jubbaland, Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe, sparking fresh political contention in Somalia.
In aN interview with the Somali language division of the BBC on Wednesday, Buule dismissed the decision made by President Madobe, declaring his autonomy and drawing a clear line of political opposition.
“We are not concerned with what Ahmed Madobe has appointed, and no one from his administration or supporters can come to Gedo region,” declared Governor Buule, taking a firm stance against Madobe’s newly appointed administration.
Buule, whose long tenure as Governor of Gedo has been marked by conflict between the former government of President Farmajo and the Jubbaland administration, also proclaimed himself as the independent president of the Jubbaland administration.
Asserting his aspirations for the region, Buule said, “I am the free president of Jubbaland, and my plan is to unify Jubbaland properly and establish an administration in the regions of Lower Jubba and Middle Jubba.”
Governor Buule did not shy away from pointing fingers. He accused the Prime Minister of the Somali government, Hamse Abdi Barre, of facilitating the separation of Jubbaland and isolating the people living in the Gedo region.
This public denouncement from the Governor of Gedo comes at a volatile time as the President of Jubbaland appointed a new administration for Gedo region on Tuesday night. These remarks have incited further tension, highlighting the continued struggle for control and unity within Somalia’s regions.
