(15-06-23) MOGADISHU — The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare hosted an in-depth seminar, focusing on the management and preparation of blood units, at Banadir Hospital on Wednesday.
This instructional event was scheduled to align with the International Day of Blood Donation, drawing the participation of 60 attendees. The gathering encompassed students pursuing studies in laboratory sciences, nursing, and healthcare professionals, who were eager to glean insights on improving blood transfusion practices.
The participants were meticulously walked through the principles of blood preparation and storage, patient safety systems, as well as the critical process of testing donated blood. The attendees also had the unique opportunity to undertake group research experiments on blood transfusion management, enhancing their practical understanding of the subject.
In keeping with international health standards, the importance of procuring certified blood to uphold patient safety was underlined during the seminar. This crucial point echoed the concerted efforts made by the health sector in Somalia to reinforce the country’s healthcare infrastructure.
