(19-06-23) MOGADISHU — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has appointed new commanders to the Somali National Armed Forces, initiating a crucial shift in the country’s strategic operations against the Al-Shabaab insurgents. Brigadier General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyiddin and Brigadier General Ahmed Aden Ali, entrusted with leading the National Armed Forces and the Infantry respectively, were named in a Presidential decree issued on Monday.
The President highlighted the challenging but critical role every citizen must play, both civilian and military, in the fight for national liberation from Al-Shabaab. He commended the resilience and commitment of the Somali people and the armed forces in their unwavering struggle to purge the country of terrorists.
He directed the newly-appointed Brigadier General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyiddin to intensify the fight against Al-Shabaab and rebuild the National Armed Forces, a responsibility welcomed and accepted by the new commander.
Following the announcement, the Ministry of Defense expressed its gratitude to the President and the Cabinet Ministers for their support. They lauded the appointments as an affirmation of the government’s commitment to fortifying the country’s defence capabilities.
The Ministry highlighted the new commanders’ deep respect within the armed forces and their proven dedication to national service. Their strategic insight, extensive experience, and unwavering dedication to duty are set to become invaluable assets to the Somali National Army.
The Ministry also paid tribute to the outgoing Major General Odowaa Yusuf Rage and Brigadier General Mohamed Tahleil Bihi for their steadfast service to the nation, acknowledging their significant contributions to the country’s security.
With the introduction of the new commanders, the Ministry of Defense expressed its firm belief that the Somali Armed Forces will continue to protect the nation, uphold its values, and ensure the safety of its people.
