(11-06-23) MOGADISHU — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia, along with his delegation, on Sunday, embarked on an announced diplomatic mission to Djibouti, the Djiboutian capital, to attend the 14th session of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
This regional conference, as reports suggest, will be primarily centred around the escalating conflict within the Republic of Sudan, which is currently mired in heavy fighting between the national military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Amidst the tussle for power, the crisis has had a profound impact on thousands of Somali nationals, many of whom were studying in Sudan’s universities. In response to the mounting hostilities, the Somali government has made the difficult decision to repatriate its citizens.
President Mohamud is expected to bring Somalia’s perspective to the fore at the meeting, focusing on potential solutions to cease the violence and expressing the government’s deep dismay at the unfolding crisis in Sudan.
