(30-07-23) MOGADISHU – The President of Jubaland, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, Madobe, convened a meeting on Sunday with senior World Bank officials, led by Mattias Mayr, the Deputy Head of the World Bank in Somalia and Project Manager. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the rapid implementation of various development projects funded by the World Bank.
The comprehensive dialogue focused on fast-tracking numerous initiatives the World Bank has pledged to finance. Notably, these encompass the construction of vital roads, the development of worker’s infrastructure, and the expansion of other indispensable social services. Some of these projects are already in progress, while others are in the initial stages of planning.
This discussion comes amidst efforts to foster economic growth, stimulate job creation, and improve the standard of living in Jubaland, a region that has struggled with civil unrest and instability for decades. Through the acceleration of these projects, the leaders hope to provide more opportunities for the locals and contribute to the country’s overall development.
“The World Bank remains committed to helping Somalia strengthen its economic foundations and improve the livelihoods of its people,” said Mattias Mayr. “By expediting the commencement of these projects, we aim to have an immediate impact on the ground, uplifting the lives of those living in Jubaland and across Somalia.”
