(01-07-23) JOWHAR –The President of Hirshabelle state, Ali Gudlawe Hussein, addressed the ongoing political dispute regarding the dismissal of the former governor of Hiran region, Ali Jeyte Osman, during Somalia’s independence celebrations on Saturday, July 1 in Jowhar.

Gudlawe strongly condemned Osman’s divisive actions, who, after his dismissal, had announced the creation of a new “Hiran State” administration. Such a development has stirred considerable tension and threatened the unity of the Hirshabelle state.

Reasserting the cohesive identity of Hirshabelle, the President made clear that there is no room for the inception of another regional government within its borders. The President further stressed that Hirshabelle was more than a fleeting political alliance, declaring, “Being born here means you remain part of this region for life. We are committed to considering any advice that comes our way and encourage all to play their part in our shared journey,” he added.

In his remarks, the President also called for support and collaboration with leaders in office, promoting a smooth transition process. He emphasised, “Residing in Hirshabelle isn’t a finality, but rather an ongoing commitment. Everyone in responsibility has a limited tenure. During that time, it is crucial to cooperate, and when change comes, the new should be warmly embraced for the best interest of our people and land,” stated President Guudlawe.

To strengthen the democratic ethos of the region, President Gudlawe announced his administration’s commitment to decentralisation, affirming that they are working towards allowing the community to elect their leaders, moving away from the tradition of gubernatorial appointments by decree.

In addition, the President shared a positive update about the war against the Al-Shabaab group. He underscored that significant successes had been achieved in recent operations in Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions.
