(17-08-17) MOGADISHU – During Thursday’s ministerial meeting, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre rallied government agencies and societal sectors of the Federal Republic of Somalia to amplify their involvement in the current campaign to oust Al-Shabaab from the nation.
This important assembly witnessed General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyadeen, Commander of the Somali National Army, detailing the current military endeavours. He emphasised that the Central Regions remain a battleground where efforts are being intensified to dislodge Al-Shabaab.
Praising President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s unparalleled commitment, evidenced by his decision to lead directly from the frontlines, Prime Minister Hamza conveyed the inspirational effect of such leadership on both the public and military. “Our tenacious national forces, as they stand against the Khawarij, are penning a renewed chapter of liberation from those terrorists who have held our people under duress,” commented Prime Minister Hamza.
Hamza reiterated the magnitude of the threat posed by Al-Shabaab, emphasising that a collaborative and collective effort from all Somalis is imperative. This is a battle in which “each and every Somali must shoulder their responsibility”.
On a legislative front, the meeting also saw the ratification of the Somali Youth Bill and the Regulation on the Management of Public Property and Government Resources. This points towards a holistic approach by the government, balancing security and developmental reforms.
