(12/08/23) MOGADISHU -In a recent interview during his campaign tour in Borama, the leader of the opposition party, Mr. Abdirahman Abdullahi, weighed in on the ongoing conflict between Somaliland and the Garhajis faction. Mr. Abdullahi expressed his concerns and opinions on various aspects of the conflict.
Speaking about the tragic incident involving the killing of nine Somaliland soldiers, Mr. Abdirahman Abdullahi called for an immediate cessation of hostilities by the Garhajis militia. He emphasised the need for a peaceful resolution and urged all parties involved to prioritise dialogue over the use of force.
During his address, Mr. Adullahi also directed his appeal to the Somaliland government, urging them to give paramount importance to peaceful negotiations. He specifically called for the withdrawal of Somaliland forces from civilian-held territories. Mr. Abdullahi firmly asserted his belief that military intervention is not the optimal solution for addressing civilian grievances.
“I personally don’t believe that resorting to force is the answer when it comes to civilian matters. I implore the President to consider withdrawing Somaliland forces from civilian areas. Additionally, I call upon the Garhajis Militant groups to halt their fighting,” stated Mr. Abdirahman Abdullahi.
His statements reflect his strong commitment to finding a peaceful and diplomatic resolution to the conflict. As tensions continue to escalate, Mr. Abdullahi’s stance emphasises the importance of dialogue and de-escalation in order to achieve stability and harmony in the region.
