(30-10-23) MOGADISHU — Ali Jeyte Osman, the newly appointed Chief Liaison in the Office of the President for the Civilian Defense Forces, known locally as Macawisley, has called on both the Somali Army and citizens to ramp up efforts against Al-Shabaab.
The call to action was made public on Monday after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud confirmed Osman’s appointment on Sunday. “I am asking the Somali Army and the people to stand up to remove the men of the blood of Beni’adan from the country,” Osman stated.
Osman’s urging extends to the Macawisley forces, civilian-led militias that have primarily operated in southern Somalia. These forces serve as additional security against extremist threats and are being called upon to increase their involvement in the nationwide anti-Al-Shabaab operations.
This mobilisation request occurs during a concentrated government push to eliminate Al-Shabaab’s influence and restore national stability. Yet, the endeavour is fraught with challenges, given Somalia’s tumultuous history and persistent struggles against extremism.
