(09-10-23) MOGADISHU—  Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Salah Ahmed Jama, and Uganda’s Minister of State for Regional Integration, John Mulimba, convened in Mogadishu this week to reinforce bilateral ties, focusing on areas including security, regional economy, migration, and notably, the elimination of the Al-Shabaab militant group.

The Deputy Prime Minister initiated the dialogue by congratulating Uganda on its 61st independence anniversary, whilst also thanking the nation for its critical role in maintaining peace and combatting Al-Shabaab in Somalia.

For his part, Minister John Mulimba articulated Uganda’s support for Somalia’s entry into the East African Community, a move aimed at enhancing socio-economic integration among the nations of the region.

The bilateral meeting, held at the Deputy Prime Minister’s office, sets a precedent for greater collaborative efforts between the two nations. Both officials expressed optimism that their renewed partnership would yield tangible security and economic benefits in the near future.
