(15-10-23) BAGHDAD — Somalia’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hassan Moallim Mohamud, arrived in the Iraqi capital on Saturday evening, ahead of the 39th session of the Arab Council of Justice Ministers. Accompanied by Attorney General Sulaiman Mohamed Mohamud, the minister was greeted warmly by Somalia’s Ambassador to Iraq, Liban Sheikh Mohamud (Malin Gur).
An Executive Office meeting took place on Sunday as a prelude to the 39th session, approving a six-item agenda for the main council meeting. The council session, scheduled for Monday, is poised to address significant issues including counter-terrorism and enhancements to justice and judiciary systems globally.
Iraqi Minister of Justice, Khaled Shawani, welcomed the Arab Justice Ministers in attendance and set the tone for the meeting by acknowledging the urgency of the issues at hand. “We are convening this meeting at a critical time for our region, especially concerning the situation in Gaza,” Minister Shawani said. He also extended condolences to the families affected by recent disasters in Morocco and Libya.
During his stay in Iraq, Minister Hassan Moallim Mohamud is slated for bilateral talks with justice ministers from other Arab countries. These discussions are part of Somalia’s wider strategy to strengthen relations with member states of the Arab Union, focusing on common challenges in the justice sector.
