(26-11-23) MOGADISHU – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Sunday appointed MP Omar Ibrahim Hashi as the new Special Envoy for Stabilization and Protection of Civil Affairs, according to a presidential decree released by Villa Somalia. This appointment comes on the heels of the previous nomination of Mohamed Abdi Waare, the former president of Hirshabelle, as the special envoy in April 2023.
MP Hashi’s role is pivotal in the government’s ongoing efforts to combat Al-Shabaab, a jihadist terrorist group wreaking havoc in various regions of Somalia. His primary responsibility will be to oversee the protection of civilians in areas currently undergoing liberation and stabilization from Al-Shabaab’s grip. The President has placed a high priority on establishing effective governance and social services in these newly liberated areas.
Former president of Hirshabelle, Mohamed Abdi Waare, expressed his support for MP Hashi in a recent tweet, congratulating him on his new role and highlighting the significance of stabilization efforts parallel to the military actions against Al-Shabaab. Waare’s tweet highlights the collaborative spirit essential for Somalia’s ongoing fight against terrorism.
