(08/11/23) LASANOD – SSC-Khatumo forces have claimed a decisive victory over Somaliland troops in an intense battle in the Buqdharkayn village of the Sool region on Wednesday. The conflict, characterized by heavy fighting and heavy weaponry, marks a significant turn in the ongoing tensions between the two factions.
The conflict was further intensified by an incident involving Somaliland Army Logistics Commander Ibrahim Tiyoote, who was captured by SSC forces along with 12 fighters in Wednesday’s battle in the Buqdharkayn area of Togdheer region.
According to SSC-Khatumo, their forces successfully repelled an attack by Somaliland troops, inflicting substantial losses. The confrontation is part of a broader dispute that has seen periodic flare-ups in violence.
The SSC-Khatumo administration stated that their forces’ victory was a testament to their commitment to defending their territory and people against external aggression. They also emphasised the importance of maintaining sovereignty and autonomy in the face of what they describe as provocations by the Somaliland administration.
Somaliland has yet to issue an official response to these claims. International observers and regional analysts closely monitor the situation, noting the potential implications for broader regional stability in Somalia.
