(15-12-23) NAIROBI (HN) — Three members of a family were killed in a land mine explosion in the Eegay village, between Garisa and Dadaab in North East Kenya. The attack, which occurred on Friday, is believed to be the work of the Al-Shabaab militant group.
Ugas Amin Ugas Hassan, a traditional elder from the Somali community in Kenya, was among those killed. The vehicle, carrying Ugas along with his son and brother, was devastated by the explosion. This incident marks yet another violent act attributed to Al-Shabaab, a group known for targeting the Kenyan army in the NFD of Kenya.
The indiscriminate nature of such attacks by Al-Shabaab continues to pose a severe threat not only to military personnel but also to civilians. The Kenyan army maintains an active presence in the province, conducting regular operations along the Kenya-Somalia border to thwart Al-Shabaab’s activities and protect innocent lives. This latest attack brings to light the ongoing conflict in the region and the urgent necessity for reinforced security measures to safeguard civilians against such brutal acts of violence.
