(31-12-23) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somo Ibrahim Idow, an Al-Shabaab fighter, surrendered on Sunday to the Somali National Army’s 8th Battalion of the 60th Division, observing a key moment in the government’s intensified campaign against the militant group. Idow’s surrender, after five years with Al-Shabaab, follows the recent capitulation of three other members of the group.
This development aligns with the Somali government’s strategy of offering amnesty to Al-Shabaab members who surrender. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reaffirmed this approach, emphasizing the government’s commitment to peace and stability.
The surrender indicates the increasing effectiveness of the Somali military’s operations, supported by local militia and international partners, in combating the insurgency and restoring order in the region.
