Galmudug Prioritises Ground Combat in the Fight Against Al-Shabaab,

(22-12-23) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Galmudug state government has abandoned its reliance on air strikes in the fight against the Al-Shabaab militant group, opting instead for direct ground combat. This adjustment was revealed by Abdullahi Hirsi Hagey, the first deputy speaker of the Galmudug state parliament, during an interview with Shabelle Radio.

According to Hagey, the revised approach has already proven successful, leading to the liberation of large areas previously under Al-Shabaab control. He highlighted that the current ground operations are efficient and reduce the necessity for aerial support.

The deputy speaker also made a call for unity among the people of Galmudug, urging them to come together in the fight against Al-Shabaab. This statement coincides with ongoing operations by the Somali National Army, Galmudug devishes and local forces, in the areas of Caad and Eeldher in southern Mudug and Galgudud.
