(31-12-23) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre of Somalia announced the government’s intention to remove all roadblocks in Mogadishu by the start of 2024. This statement was made at a meeting organised by the Banadir regional administration to mark the city’s security achievements.
The event, attended by government and military officials, as well as local leaders and community representatives, highlighted the necessity of ensuring Mogadishu’s security for national progress. Prime Minister Barre urged the community to unite against the al-Shabaab threat.
He also praised the efforts of security agencies and local administration, noting Somalia’s critical phase post-arms embargo lift and debt relief. The removal of roadblocks, previously used to prevent car bombings but causing severe traffic congestion and occasional casualties, is seen as a significant step towards improving safety and mobility in the capital.
