(10-12-23) MOGADISHU (HN) — Mohamed Abdi Ware, Somalia’s former Presidential Chief for Stabilisation and Protection of Civilians, has been appointed as the new Deputy Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). The announcement was made today, 10 December 2024, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Djibouti, Mohamoud Ali Yusuf, who also serves as the Chair of the IGAD Council of Ministers.
In a letter addressed to IGAD’s Executive Secretary General Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the appointment was finalised during the IGAD Assembly of Heads of States’ ordinary summit in June 2023.
Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Da’ud Aweis, congratulated Ware on his appointment, lauding it as a major victory for Somalia. Daud underscored the appointment’s significance, stating it elevates Somalia’s position within the region and on the international stage, and represents a key diplomatic achievement for the Federal Government of Somalia.
