(22-12-23) KISMAYO (Halqabsi News) — Over 70 militants were killed in a fierce battle that took place on Friday in Lower Juba region of Jubaland. The operation led by Ssomali National Amy’s elite 16th Battalion of the Danab commando unit and Jubaland forces targeted Al-Shabaab strongholds in the village of Aboodin. According to reports from Jubaland TV, the battle involved a combination of ground assaults and airstrikes, the latter provided by US Air Forces in support of the Somali government’s efforts to combat terrorism.
The encounter was described as a decisive engagement, with Jubaland forces and Danab commandos penetrating deep into territories previously held by Al-Shabaab. The militants, overwhelmed by the coordinated attack, suffered significant losses, including several key leaders.
Residents of Aboodin, a small village in the Lower Juba region, witnessed the aftermath of the battle, reporting the retreat of Al-Shabaab forces. They confirmed seeing a large number of casualties among the militants, indicating the scale and intensity of the conflict.
