(28-12-23) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia addressed a town hall meeting on Wednesday, an event organised by the Minbar initiative. The forum presented a platform for in-depth discussion on the achievements made by the government in 2023.
The highlight of the meeting was President Mohamud’s engagement with a query regarding the remuneration of the nation’s armed forces. Acknowledging these personnel’s relentless efforts and sacrifices, especially amidst challenging security situations, the President provided insights into their current pay structure.
The Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers receive salaries ranging from $100 to $300, varying by rank. In contrast, forces trained by the United Arab Emirates are compensated with $300 to $600 monthly, marking a notable disparity. It was pointed out that the Somali government forces are on the lower end of the wage spectrum compared to other government civil services.
Reflecting their commitment to the welfare of the armed forces, President Mohamud announced plans for a comprehensive review of their salaries. He emphasised that increasing their pay is important for the Somali government, signifying a step towards acknowledging and rewarding the critical role of these forces in maintaining national security.
