(21-12-23) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — A coalition of Somali parliamentarians, known as the Kutlada Toosinta (Rectification Caucus), on Thursday issued a scathing critique of Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre’s government. The allegations were brought forward in a statement read by MP Farah Macalin Bishar from the Kudlada Toosin Qaran.
The group accused the government of failing its essential duties and engaging in undisclosed agreements with foreign countries, potentially jeopardizing national security. They have called for Prime Minister Hamza to address these concerns before Parliament.
In a pressing matter, the caucus highlighted the government’s apparent neglect of the flood victims affected by the recent autumn rains. Despite the availability of international aid, many families across various regions remain without assistance, raising serious questions about the government’s priorities and response effectiveness.
The parliamentarians further criticized the government’s preoccupation with constitutional reforms, arguing that it is a divisive issue and not aligned with the immediate needs of the populace, particularly during a humanitarian crisis.
Additionally, the MPs revealed information from the chairman of the disaster management agency, indicating that although there is enough food aid for those in need, there is a shortfall of funds to distribute this aid from the warehouses in Mogadishu. This situation has led to queries about the government’s allocation of financial resources.
The government’s proposed amendments to the constitution were also a point of contention, perceived by the MPs as a step towards authoritarianism and an abuse of power.
The statement concluded with a call for a constitution that fosters unity among the Somali people and transparency regarding the government’s alleged secret international dealings.
