(11-01-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday met with Mrs Annette Weber, the European Union’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, at Villa Somalia in a discussion centred on the current situation in the region and the EU’s critical role in Somalia’s development.
During the meeting, Mrs Weber emphasised the European Union’s dedication to fostering stability in the Horn of Africa. She stressed the EU’s stance on maintaining the region’s stability, highlighting the significance of preserving the independence, sovereignty, and unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
President Hassan Sheikh expressed gratitude for the European Union’s ongoing support. He acknowledged the EU’s endorsement of Somalia’s independence and sovereignty, stressing the Somali government’s and its people’s continuous efforts to protect their land, sea, and overall sovereignty.
The talks also explored joint efforts in combating the threat posed by the militant group Al-Shabaab and strengthening Somalia’s military capabilities, demonstrating a continued commitment to collaboration and regional stability.
