(29-01-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre announced this morning the appointment of new ministers for the Agriculture and Public Works ministries. The Prime Minister’s spokesperson, Farhan Mohamed Jimale, confirmed that Mohamed Abdi Hayir Mareye has been designated as the new Minister of Agriculture, while Abdisalan Abdi Ali, also known as Dhaay, will take charge of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.
The appointments arrived on the heels of speculation that a minor cabinet reshuffle was on the horizon. Despite these new assignments, two significant ministries remain without ministers. The Security Ministry’s leadership is vacant after its previous minister was picked to serve as Somalia’s ambassador to Qatar. Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in a holding pattern for a new minister after its former head resigned to run in the recent Puntland elections—a campaign that ultimately did not culminate in electoral success for Mr Abshir Huruse.
The vacancies have cast a spotlight on the Prime Minister’s next moves, as the roles of security and foreign affairs are key in maintaining national stability and forging international relations.
