(10-01-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Federal MP Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu reported that at least six children have succumbed to suspected acute watery diarrhoea (AWD) in Buloburte district, Hiiraan region. MP Moalimuu, elected from the constituency, cited health officials and local authorities who confirmed that more than 30 individuals are currently afflicted and receiving care at a makeshift hospital.
He attributes the surge in cases to compromised access to clean water and adequate sanitation facilities, a direct consequence of the recent floods that have devastated water and sanitation systems.
Furthermore, he expressed concern over the scarcity of medical supplies in the district to treat those with diarrhoea. Concluding his statement, MP Moalimuu issued an urgent appeal to national and international health organisations for assistance to save the affected children and to halt the progression of the disease. HirShabelle Health Ministry has not stated the reported waterborne disease outbreak in Buloburte.
