Armed Men Assault 13-Year-Old Girl in Garowe IDP Camp

(18-02-24) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) — In a distressing incident at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp near Garowe, a 13-year-old girl was subjected to a severe assault by four armed individuals dressed in military uniforms. The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday within the family home in Jiingadda, an IDP camp on the eastern outskirts of Garowe, where the perpetrators held the family at gunpoint.

The victim, in critical condition, was immediately rushed to a hospital in Garowe for treatment. This incident has stressed the vulnerability of IDP camp residents, particularly highlighting the risks faced by women and children in these settings.

Authorities in Garowe have yet to respond to the incident, prompting urgent calls from the community for improved security measures and justice for the victim. Somalia is currently facing a severe escalation in violence, with a notable increase in gender-based violence incidents.
