(26-02-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The police chief of Heliwa district, in Mogadishu, Commander Abdifitah Qoslaye, along with several of his bodyguards, has been detained in connection with the murder of prominent businessman Abukar Ahmed Kaabax on Monday. The body was discovered last Thursday in the remote Garsbaaley area outskirt of Mogadishu, following his abduction from Heliwa district last week.
Abukar Ahmed, a respected figure in the currency exchange sector, a diaspora returnee and an educated scholar was reportedly abducted under the cover of night while en route to his Wararacadde neighbourhood home.
Police officials confirmed that the suspects are currently held at the CID Center of the Somali Police, undergoing investigation. The case has drawn attention due to the alleged involvement of police personnel in such a heinous act.
Former Somali police spokesman Sadiq Doodishe, despite being recently replaced, disclosed in a police report that the perpetrators had been identified, though details at the time were sparse. The arrest of Commander Qoslaye marks a turning point in the investigation, underscoring the gravity of the accusations against law enforcement officials.
