President Mohamud shared the strides made in ensuring national security and battling terrorism, achievements that have notably contributed to overcoming critical challenges, including lifting the arms embargo. “These recommendations made it possible for our country to overcome difficult stages,” the President was quoted in a statement from Villa Somalia.
The President thanked the British government for its role in training Somali forces. This collaboration comes as Somalia is on the verge of assuming full responsibility for the country’s security following the withdrawal of the remaining African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) forces.
Despite the ongoing conflict within its borders, Somalia is making headway in its battle against Al-Shabaab, inflicting losses on the militant group and recapturing key territories once under their control. The country is actively seeking international support as it enters the final phase of the conflict, aiming to eradicate the threat posed by Al-Shabaab and restore peace and stability.
