(24-02-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre on Saturday, led a crucial meeting focusing on Somalia’s national strategy for climate adaptation and pollution reduction, in a concerted effort to tackle the escalating challenges posed by climate change. The conference, a critical platform for dialogue and planning, unveiled reports highlighting the multifaceted impacts of climate change across the country and assessed the progress of its adaptation strategies.
The discussion centred around the national plan aimed at mitigating air pollution, with proposed measures to cut down on air pollutants and enhance the nation’s resilience to climate change-related risks. Prime Minister Barre pointed out the direct effects of climate change on Somalia, particularly its environmental consequences, which have been increasingly felt across the country.
“Climate change has made a marked impact on our environment, bringing to light the urgent need for action,” stated Prime Minister Barre. He further urged government bodies to “submit detailed plans for the most critical areas requiring financial support to combat the effects of climate change.”
