(15-03-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — In the aftermath of a harrowing attack on the SYL Hotel by the Al-Shabaab group, Somali Parliament Member Abdirahman Abdishakur on Friday issued a fervent call for national unity against terrorism. The assault, which occurred Thursday, has reignited concerns over security during the holy month of Ramadan.
Abdishakur condemned the attack, offering condolences to the families of the victims: “I condemn the attack by Al-Shabaab terrorists on SYL Hotel. May God have mercy on those who died and praise those who were injured.” His statement highlighted the stark violation of peace during Ramadan, a period devoted to fasting and prayer.
The MP emphasized the irony of the attack following recent military successes against Al-Shabaab, pointing out that Mogadishu had seen a period of respite from terrorist activities. “Mogadishu has been relieved of their attacks for some time,” Abdishakur noted, attributing the latest incident to the group’s opportunistic tendencies amid ongoing conflicts.
Abdishakur’s statement extended beyond condemnation, calling on the government of President Hassan Sheikh to set aside divisive issues and focus on the collective fight against terrorism. He stressed the importance of unity and the need for a consolidated effort to address the security challenges posed by Al-Shabaab.
