(05-03-24) BELEDWEYNE (Halqabsi News) — Somali national armed forces were deployed in the Farlibah district of the Hiran region on Tuesday, in a renewed offensive against the Al-Shabaab militant group. The deployment, accompanied by a military exercise, took place in the village of Farlibaax and was attended by officials from the National Army and the Hirshabelle police.
Isaaq Ali Abdulle, the commander of the Hiran police department, addressed the forces, stating that the new deployment is key in the ongoing battle against Al-Shabaab and in efforts to reclaim the western areas under the control of the insurgents. “We are ready, following the President’s instructions, to fight against our enemy,” Abdulle affirmed.
Colonel Mohamud Ibrahim Baakay, the commander of the 5th battalion of the 27th division of the army, also spoke at the event, highlighting the readiness of the new forces and the strategic significance of the advanced weaponry at their disposal for the liberation efforts.
“I am very happy to stand before you today in Farlibah,” Baakay said, underscoring the personal significance of the mission. “Today, we stand armed, not just with weapons, but with the resolve to liberate our lands from the clutches of Al-Shabaab.”
The Hiran region, currently a critical battleground against Al-Shabaab, continues to see concerted efforts from government forces and local Mawisley fighters, underscoring a collective commitment to eradicate the militant threat and restore peace in the region.
