(17 April 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama has honoured Somali athlete Abdullahi Jama Mohamed for his outstanding performance at the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana. Abdullahi clinched a silver medal in the 5,000-meter race on 22 March 2024, bringing pride to his nation.
In a meeting at his office, DPM Jama praised Abdullahi as a dedicated young athlete who boldly represented his country on the international stage, embodying the spirit of Somali youth. Mr Jama added that Abdullahi’s initiative and perseverance are a beacon of motivation for Somali youth, demonstrating that success is possible in the face of adversity.
He underlined the Somali government’s commitment to nurturing sports, emphasising the development of sports infrastructure to prepare Somali youth for international competition. He also highlighted the government’s dedication to empowering young people to be engaged in the job market and contributing to national growth.
Concluding, DPM Jama expressed confidence in the potential for even greater achievements from Abdullahi and his peers, reaffirming the government’s support for the ambitious pursuits of its youth.
