(30-05-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The third phase of the Mogadishu-Jowhar road construction project has begun, marking a significant step in enhancing economic and social connectivity in Somalia. Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, accompanied by Mogadishu Mayor Yusuf Hussein Jimale, various ministers, and the Qatari Ambassador, visited the site to ensure the project’s timely completion.
Funded primarily by Qatar and constructed by Turkish engineers, this vital infrastructure project aims to improve trade and transportation. It also seeks to improve access to essential services between the Banadir and Hirshabelle regions. The successful completion of the first two phases has already led to noticeable improvements in commercial activity and mobility.
Despite previous attempts by Al-Shabaab to disrupt the construction of the Mogadishu-Afgoye highway, the ongoing road projects demonstrate the Somali government’s and its international partners’ commitment to improving the nation’s infrastructure and economic prospects.
