(03-06-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) and Head of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), Ambassador Souef Mohamed El-Amine, hosted a welcome reception on Sunday night in Mogadishu for the incoming Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia and Head of the UN Assistance Mission for Somalia (UNSOM), James Swan.
SRSG Swan met with the senior leadership team of ATMIS, along with ambassadors and representatives from the UK, EU, Kenya, Uganda, and other key international partners supporting peace and security efforts in Somalia. The new UNSOM head arrived in Mogadishu a week ago to take over from his predecessor Catriona Laing. According to the UN, during his tenure, Swan’s focus will be to support the Federal Government of Somalia and the Somali people to advance their peace, security, development, and state-building priorities. UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced his designation of Mr Swan on 14 May.
