(02-06-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Mukhtar Nur Geesey, Deputy Chairman of Social Affairs for the Lafoole local authority, was assassinated last night in front of his Dharkenley residence in Mogadishu. Unidentified gunmen fatally shot Mr. Geesey, who died instantly.
Security forces responded quickly, securing the scene and transferring Mr. Geesey’s body to the Criminal Investigation Department. The perpetrators escaped, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
This assassination is the latest in a string of violent incidents targeting government officials in Mogadishu. While Al-Shabaab frequently conducts attacks in the capital, the motive and identities of those involved in this specific incident remain unclear.
Government forces have increased operations in the city to prevent further violence and apprehend those responsible. The community demands heightened security and a thorough investigation into this and other recent killings.
