(02-07-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somalia’s military court on Tuesday sentenced former Constable Mohamed Hirey Mohamud, a member of SNA’s Ali bin Abi Talib brigade, to five years in military prison for deliberately shooting and injuring his commander on 11 January of this year.
The incident occurred in Mahas district, Hiiraan region. The convicted soldier was initially transferred to a prison in Guriel district but managed to escape and was hiding in the Tabeellaha Sheekh Ibrahim area on the outskirts of Mogadishu.
After an unyielding search, security forces apprehended the suspect on 14 April of this year at Liido Beach in Banadir region.
The court proceedings went through various stages before the final verdict. Mr Mohamud was sentenced to five years in military prison, ordered to pay compensation for the injuries and medical expenses of his commander, and dismissed from the Somali National Army.
