(15-07-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Clean-up efforts are underway in Mogadishu’s Bondere district after a suicide bombing at the Top Coffee restaurant claimed nine lives and injured around 20 others. The attack, which occurred during the Euro 2024 final between England and Spain, has been claimed by Al-Shabaab.
The Banadir regional administration swiftly launched a clean-up operation, with crews working to clear the scene of the explosion. The deputy director of the sanitation department told Halqabsi News, “We are committed to cleaning up this area after the disaster so that normal life can resume.”
The targeted restaurant, situated on a busy thoroughfare linking Shabelle and Jubba junctions, had previously been bombed in 2021, resulting in the death of the director of Radio Mogadishu. The latest attack caused significant damage to nearby businesses and vehicles, particularly Bajaj motorcycles passing by.
Reflecting on the tragedy, the sanitation department official lamented, “The scale of the loss is far greater than anyone could have imagined.”
Police spokesman Major Abdifitah Aden Hassan confirmed that a full damage assessment is ongoing. Meanwhile, the Banadir administration has pledged to restore normalcy to the area as soon as possible.
