(05-07-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, fresh from a two-day visit to the frontlines of the renewed offensive against Al-Shabaab, today presided over the graduation ceremony for newly commissioned officers and their deputies in the Somali Armed Forces. The officers, who have completed three years of training at the TurkSom military academy in Mogadishu, represent the sixth batch to receive advanced training.
During the ceremony, President Mohamud presented certificates and awards to the officers and lieutenants, emphasizing the crucial role they will play in upholding the country’s security. He reiterated his commitment to liberating Somalia from Al-Shabaab and taking over security responsibilities from ATMIS forces by the end of the year.
“The gift a person gives is the most precious to himself, and you have sacrificed your lives for your country and people,” the President addressed the new officers. “We are at war with a very weak enemy, and with the new recruits and the lifting of the weapons embargo, victory is within our grasp.”
President Mohamud also expressed his gratitude to the Turkish government and its president for their significant contribution to the rebuilding of the Somali state.
The newly trained officers represent all branches of the armed forces, including the navy, army, and air force. Their induction, along with the intensified offensive and increased resources, is expected to significantly bolster the capabilities of the Somali Armed Forces in maintaining national security and combating the threat of Al-Shabaab.
