(03-07-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Somali National Army conducted a security operation in Lower Shabelle region, capturing several Al-Shabaab militants and rescuing vehicles that were being held for ransom by the militants.
Spokesman of the Ministry of Defence, Sheikh Abukar Mohamed, held a press conference in Lower Shabelle’s Doonka area. He stated that the planned operation involved the army ambushing the Khawarij from two directions while they were robbing vehicles on the road connecting Afgoye and Wanlaweyn.
The spokesperson added that the army rescued 20 public vehicles, which the Al-Shabaab militants were holding for ransom.
“During this operation, we also captured criminals whom the national army had been pursuing,” the spokesman said.
