(05 Aug 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Protesters took to the streets in Mogadishu this morning, expressing their anger over an Al-Shabaab attack on Lido Beach last Friday night. The terrorist attack, which targeted a beachside hotel, left over 100 people dead, most of whom were young civilians, and injured approximately 170 others. The large turnout, including government officials and ordinary citizens, underscored the public’s outrage and sorrow over the violence.
Government representatives, including Minister of Sports and Youth Mohamed Barre and State Minister for Presidency Hirsi Ganni, joined the demonstration, vowing retaliation against the perpetrators. Ganni emphasised that Al-Shabaab, having suffered recent setbacks, is nearing its end, while SODMA Director Mohamud Moallim urged the youth to unite against the group.
