(05 Aug 2024) LUUQ (Halqabsi News) – A peace mediation committee has issued new decisions to resolve the recent conflict among three clans in Luuq District, Gedo region. The committee, led by the First Deputy President of Jubaland, Mohamud Sayid Adan, has fined each clan for wrongful killings and will refer eight individuals involved in inciting violence to justice agencies.
The committee has also appointed a team to assess and compensate for damages caused by the conflict, including the burning of villages and businesses. Those responsible for the arson will be required to pay for the damage they caused.
In addition to these measures, the Deputy Jubaland President announced that militia groups involved in the conflict would be disbanded, and no armed individuals outside of Jubaland or the Federal Government of Somalia would be allowed in the area. These decisions follow four weeks of peace meetings aimed at ending the clashes.
