(26 Aug 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Government soldier Mahad Ali Mohamud Madobe has been sentenced to death for the murder of Ahmed Nur Tohow in Mogadishu’s Daru Salam District on 29 April 2024. The incident came when Madobe stopped Tohow, who was legally carrying a licensed handgun, and demanded he surrender the weapon. Tohow refused, asserting his legal right to carry the firearm, prompting Madobe to open fire and kill him on the spot. Authorities arrested Madobe later that same day.
After an extensive investigation by the Office of the Military Prosecutor, the case was brought to court. The trial began earlier this month, providing both the prosecution and defence ample opportunity to present their arguments. The court ultimately ruled that Madobe’s actions were intentional and unjustified, convicting him of premeditated murder.
The military court sentenced Madobe to death by execution, with the verdict confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Mohamed Abdi Mumin, a spokesperson for the First Degree Court of the Armed Forces, in a statement to the media.
