(21 Aug 2024) GALKAYO (Halqabsi News) – Puntland Police in the Mudug region have announced the capture of one of the three remaining Al-Shabaab convicts who had been at large following a recent jailbreak in Galkayo, where over ten militants sentenced to death row escaped. With this latest arrest, only two fugitives remain at large.
The captured militant, identified as Abdirahman Awal Mohamed (Sigayste), had been sentenced to death for his involvement in an Al-Shabaab cell responsible for the assassination of key figures in Galkayo and the broader Mudug region.
Deputy Police Commander for the Mudug region, Lieutenant Colonel Abdi Said Hussein Jama ‘Komad,’ confirmed that the recaptured convict has been returned to the main prison he had previously escaped. Authorities have reiterated their offer of a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the two remaining fugitives, Abdiqani Saleban Jama ‘Saylor’ and Abdullahi Faisal Hussein ‘Abujonge.’
This arrest came just days after Puntland authorities executed ten convicted militants by firing squad in Galkayo—a move believed to have been expedited due to the recent jailbreak.
