(11 Sep 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Director of Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, welcomed the Director General of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), Abdiweli Ali Tima’Adde, to SoDMA’s headquarters in Mogadishu for discussions on improving support for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The discussions focused on implementing a nationwide registration system for IDPs, with a proposal for the government to cover registration costs for those in displacement camps. This initiative aims to curb the misappropriation of aid meant for vulnerable groups.
Both agencies agreed to strengthen their partnership to better protect and assist Somalia’s internally displaced populations.
