(05 Sep 2024) BEIJING (Halqabsi News) – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud led Somalia’s participation in a key seminar focusing on Somalia-China blue economy cooperation at the ongoing China-Africa Summit in Beijing. The summit has brought together leaders and officials from across the continent to engage with China on economic cooperation and development.
Somalia’s Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Ahmed Hassan Adan, outlined the country’s commitment to blue economy development, emphasizing the need for modernized fishing infrastructure. Attended by key stakeholders, the discussions aimed to bolster collaboration between Somalia and China, particularly in sustainable marine resource management for economic growth.
Potential Chinese investment in Somalia’s maritime infrastructure was also explored, including constructing modern ports and processing facilities crucial for the fishing industry’s advancement. Both sides further deliberated on joint research programmes to understand and protect the marine ecosystem.
China has reaffirmed its support for Somalia through financial aid, technical expertise, and capacity-building initiatives. This support is expected to play a significant role in Somalia’s pursuit of its development goals and the growth of its fisheries and blue economy sector.
The seminar provided a valuable platform to deepen bilateral ties between Somalia and China, fostering collaboration to promote sustainable economic development.
