(23 Oct 2024) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) – The Puntland Ministry of Environment, Range, and Climate Change has announced a ban on the sale and use of plastic bags across all businesses and trade centres in the region. The decision follows the issuance of a decree on September 22, 2024, aimed at tackling plastic pollution and safeguarding the environment.
Effective October 22, 2024, the ministry emphasised that black plastic bags, thin plastic bags, and printed plastic bags are no longer allowed, except for businesses with special authorisation. The move is part of a broader environmental protection strategy by the Puntland government.
Businesses found violating the ban will face penalties per Puntland’s Environmental Protection and Management Act. The ministry urged all stakeholders to comply with the regulations to avoid legal consequences and contribute to environmental conservation.
