(24 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Federal Government of Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag), met today with the British Ambassador to Somalia, Michael Nithavrianakis, to discuss bilateral relations and the UK’s ongoing support for Somalia’s security efforts.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between the two countries, particularly in bolstering Somalia’s security agencies. The UK has been a key partner in Somalia’s fight against al-Shabaab, providing critical support through the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS). Since 2021, the UK has contributed over £32.7 million in non-lethal aid, helping Somali forces in their counter-terrorism operations.
This engagement reaffirms the UK’s commitment to stabilising Somalia and strengthening its security capabilities.
