(03 Nov 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has announced a significant victory against the Al-Shabaab militant group, claiming to have killed 27 militants during a targeted operation in the Yaaqle district of the Shabelle region.
In a press release issued on Sunday, NISA stated that the operation focused on high-level Al-Shabaab commanders and their fighters, who had been gathering in the area to plan attacks against civilians. The agency described the mission as a “precision strike” that lasted over 12 hours.
“The operation resulted in the death of 27 Al-Shabaab terrorists and the destruction of their vehicles and equipment,” said a NISA statement. “This is a significant blow to the group and their efforts to destabilise Somalia.”
The Somali government, along with its international partners, has intensified efforts to combat Al-Shabaab in recent years, launching both military and counterterrorism operations against the group. However, Al-Shabaab remains a potent threat, continuing to control substantial areas of rural Somalia and posing challenges to national security.
