(12 Nov 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The federal government of Somalia has commended preparations for Somaliland’s upcoming presidential election, set for 13 November, which will feature a direct voting system. The Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs & Reconciliation issued a statement on Tuesday highlighting the election’s significance for good governance and Somalia’s broader state-building efforts.
The ministry urged the Somaliland Election Commission to ensure a transparent, secure process that upholds public confidence. Officials emphasised the importance of neutrality and called for the commission to remain free from external influence or interference from political parties.
Somalia’s government also encouraged the people of Somaliland to maintain peace and work towards a smooth election day, acknowledging the region’s longstanding tradition of orderly elections.
