(26 Nov 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Somali Cabinet held an emergency meeting on Monday night, issuing a decisive resolution against the election of Ahmed Madobe as President of Jubbaland for a third term.
Government spokesperson Farhan Mohamed Jimale, addressing the media, outlined the resolution, which declared that both the presidential election and the formation of Jubbaland’s 3rd Parliament violated the national laws.
The resolution emphasised that Jubbaland’s Constitution prohibits a president from serving more than two terms, a clause reportedly disregarded by Ahmed Madobe in seeking re-election.
“The Council of Ministers directs the Attorney General of the Federal Government to take immediate legal action before the Supreme Court to challenge Ahmed Madobe’s illegal actions,” said the spokesperson.
The decision, signed by the Prime Minister during the emergency session, was unanimously adopted by the Cabinet. It came into effect immediately upon announcement.
